Hyundai's California design studio took on the task of creating a crossover that would redefine the standard design elements employed in the genre. Much like every other concept you've seen the HCD10 Hellion has a back-story that's equal parts inspiration and PR drivel.

The structure and exterior styling is wholly organic with a mess of angles and twists that Hyundai claims was inspired by a hard shell backpack. The top is a removable canvas unit the wheels are Teflon coated dubs and a common rail diesel unit provides power.

Inside the Hellion you'll find the standard concept fare but the backpack theme is carried out within with units embedded into the seat backs. Another odd feature is the addition of a hydration station (a.k.a. water dispenser) that's hands-free removable and refillable for those supposed wild treks in the great outdoors.

Overall we like some elements and are wholly turned-off by others. As long as we keep telling ourselves it's merely a concept though we can make it through the rest of the night without breaking into a cold sweat.

Both live and official pics are posted after the jump along with Hyundai's press release.
